Ian Beaumont
Lodge Manager
Ian has spent over two decades guiding people in remote environments, building a passionate career rooted in experience, preparation, and respect for wild places. Ian’s backcountry journey revolves around climbing, whitewater, backpacking, and spelunking, with extensive work on the water as well as land.
Ian is a seasoned mariner, with more than 2,500 days at sea across the East Coast, Caribbean, and high-latitude waters, including a transatlantic crossing. Ian approaches each day in the field with a steady presence and a strong focus on safety, situational awareness, and low-impact travel.
As a Wilderness First Responder and instructor, Ian values education and thoughtful decision-making, helping guests feel confident while experiencing Katmai’s untouched wild landscapes and wildlife in an educational and meaningful way.
Nancy Beaumont
Lodge Manager
Nancy brings a calm, capable presence to Katmai Wilderness Lodge, shaped by over a decade of experience supporting trips and operations in remote environments. Her background in sailing charters and expedition logistics has given her a deep appreciation for preparation, communication, and attention to detail.
A USCG-licensed captain and Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician (WEMT), Nancy plays a key role in fostering a safe and well-run environment. In the off-season, she teaches wilderness medicine courses, sharing practical skills that help others navigate remote settings with confidence.
Her thoughtful approach allows guests to relax and fully engage with Katmai’s wild character, knowing they are supported by experience, care, and a strong foundation of safety.
Ethan Brodey
Lead Guide
Ethan Brodey is a passionate outdoorsman, USCG captain, and seasoned Alaska guide who loves providing people with unforgettable experiences in the wilderness. His love of nature and sense of adventure originally drew him to Alaska, where he has spent more than a decade guiding both on and off the water. Ethan thrives on sharing his curiosity and appreciation for nature with others in this unique corner of the world we call home.
Barry Clark
Executive Chef
Barry Clark brings a refined, experience-driven approach to wilderness dining at Katmai Wilderness Lodge, where elevated technique meets the seasonality and character of Alaska.
Trained at the Baltimore Culinary Institute and under Chef Albert Williams in the Washington, DC area, he has honed his craft across a diverse range of distinguished culinary environments, including Norwegian Cruise Lines, Black Pearl French Restaurant in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, Ridgewell Caterers, Forum Caterers, and the Comptroller of the Currency in Washington, DC.
His cuisine reflects a balance of classical training and global influence, resulting in thoughtful, high-quality dishes that are both sophisticated and deeply satisfying—an experience designed to complement the beauty and adventure of the lodge.
